Dalanor Malygris DeMyse- The Arcane Path

A knock on the door....a slightly muffled voice......and the young mage was returned to reality. His name was Dalanor, and he was an Eladrin...dweller of the Feywild. His race was more in tune with the magical energies than most, and so, Dalanor had always thought it a simple choice to follow the path of a wizard. He had trained and studied for this day since he had been only 5 years of age, and now, he would be named a member of the Order of the Silver Owls...an elite group of Magi who work towards the betterment of the Eladrin people.

"The day has finally come....."

Dalanor stood, leaving his trance state, stretching as he did so. He closed his eyes momentarily and centered himself, quelling the excitement within himself. He grabbed his wand and hung it from the leather loop fastened to his robes, and moved to the door. Outside the door waited a masked Eladrin Honor Guard to escort him to the ceremony. The Guard was silent which suited Dalanor well, for he was not interested in anything this brute had to say. He understood that those with no magical talent resorted to martial prowess, and the Eladrin had some of the finest warriors around, but why waste ones time when one could command the elements with a mere thought?

After a quiet walk, the Guard had led Dalanor to an enormous Oak door, and once opened, he was led into the Great Hall of Mages. All around him sat the greatest wizards of his people, all donning white robes with each member bearing a different Eladrin Rune which represented one word in place of true names. The White Owls were regarded as Sages and it was for this reason, each member was addressed as Sage, followed by the word that represented them. Incidentally, all of the members of the Eladrin High Council were members of the Order. Once Dalanor had taken his place, he was spoken to.

"Welcome initiate. You have been chosen above all other graduates of the academy for your natural affinity and superior intellect. You are to be accepted into the order this day due to a unanimous decision from the order and you shall be bestowed with all of the rights and priveleges of being a member of the Order of The White Owls. You will have access to our vast libraries, our vaults of magical items, and our laboritories. Now, before you are accepted fully into the order, you must be Seen. I will look into your darkest reaches of your mind, and find where your true magical skills lie."

The Sage peered into Dalanor's mind with a single wave of his hand, and almost immediately was tossed back. He looked up with a wide grin, obviously satisfied.

"You my young man, shall become one of the most important members of the Order. You shall become the Sage of Power, known now as Demise. Your skills lie in combat magic and magical examination. Your position places you as a defender of the Feywild, and you will do all within your power to protect the Feywild from any and all threats. This is due to your potential and hidden strength. You have a vast reserve of magical energy, and your drive and thirst for knowledge places you as the best candidate. Welcome Sage Demise to the Brotherhood."

Dalanor was shocked...he had not expected this, and as was customary, his robes changed to a bleach white, never to dirty or tear, and two runes appeared......one signifying his station, and one to display his name. Then, with that said and done, he bowed before the members of the order, signifying his thanks and gratitude towards his fellows.................

That had been three years ago, and merely two months after, he had been stripped of his position and cast from the Feywild. In the process, he had lost all but the most basic teachings of magic, and even his power had been stripped. It was the sacrifice for his lust for power and his unrelenting pursuit of magical items. However, despite the fact that he no longer held the position of Sage of Power, the rune for his Sage name had been branded into his flesh on his back to remind him of his dishonor. He would still give his life to defend his people should they need him, but to them he would always be Demise, the outcast.

The High Council began to grow suspicious of him shortly after his induction, due mostly to his open obsession with magical artifacts. In his haste to gain power and knowledge, he had experimented with drawing arcane power from these items to augment his strength. This was one of the biggest taboo's of any magical circle as the artifacts were considered gifts from the Gods. They contained such potent magic and ancient weaves of magic that they were viewed as Holy relics among even the Eladrin.

When he had been discovered, he had not thought he was doing anything wrong....or more accurately, he did not care. now, his obsession still remained, but he was ashamed of that part of himself and of his past and was concerned only with moving on. Now, he had found a band of adventurers that seemed to suit his purposes well....however, truth be told, he was finding that they were actually becoming less aggravating to him.....in fact, he was starting to find them tolerable. He trusted them, even the drow, however he would not readily admit to such things at this point.

The Drow interested him the most......his fighting style was quite familiar to him, and his magic was similar to that of a Wizard of the Spiral tower......it was intriguing how closely his styles matched that of an Eladrin, and he would have to keep an eye on the Drow........if only to learn more of him.

As of now, the others were settling into the cave they had ventured into after the fight with the Green Dragon.....

"Perhaps I have misjudged my actions thus far........"

It was spoken quietly and to himself......so the others would only assume he was mumbling to himself again............

"Maybe I can redeem myself and restore my own honor by staying with them.....I need them as much as they need me. "

That realization shook him.....he was so used to being alone.......could it be possible that he was befriending this ragtag group? Smiling, he shook his head and he entered into a trance, preparing to rest for the evening.

((It was originally going to be longer, but my attention span got in the way........I hope this somewhat pleases my DM.....lol))
